Val “La Chancla” Saldaña covers City Council, Commissioners Court and everything they sign. The nickname is earned: she hits hard, but only when it is deserved, and she keeps score the same way for everyone, whatever the party or the podium.
Her style is dry, exact and unhurried. She separates what happened, what was promised and what nobody has answered yet, and she will quote the record before she characterizes it. When a meeting video backs up a story, she starts the clip at the moment that matters.
She has a low tolerance for jargon and a high tolerance for long meetings. Secretly, she is a little sentimental about this city. Please don’t tell her we said so.
